At Milford-on-Sea Primary School, our Science curriculum enables children to be courageous and curious learners . It balances the acquisition of scientific skills and knowledge whilst providing opportunities for children to explore the world around them. It is shaped around the following three key concepts: understanding scientific processes, working scientifically and understanding the uses and implications of science.
The aims of the Science curriculum are to develop knowledge and understanding of biological, chemical and physical processes, alongside the key principles of working scientifically, so they are able to think as scientists when carrying out observations, investigations and experiments. Units of work and individual lessons provide opportunities for pupils to ask and answer questions; analyse, explain and share their findings. The curriculum seeks to develop and broaden the use of scientific vocabulary through each learning experience.
At MOSPS, we understand that our learners are growing up in a world where breakthroughs in science and technology can result (and have resulted) in significant change. We ensure that children have an understanding of key discoveries and their implications, as well as how Science is used outside of the classroom, so that they develop a respect for the importance of the subject and might aspire to be the scientists of the future. Our curriculum is relevant to our pupils’ lives and the world around them and is enriched by outdoor learning opportunities at Forest School and Beach School.
